The next set of songs in the sketchbook will probably be posted a little more sporadically, without the rigid structure I imposed on myself the first time. Look for more songs to come soon.

Just wanted to write a quick update on the current goings on of the Northernness. I’m still in DC, with a couple of show ideas in the works. I’ve had to focus on some housekeeping things lately, such as finding a web design job so I have food and can pay rent, but I have been slowly beginning to write a little again since the initial song sketchbook project finished up. I’ve also been known to show up occasionally at the IOTA open mic night in Arlington on Wednesdays.

Well, I have been neglecting the Northernness site lately, so I’m a little embarrassed to be posting this so late in the game. The big news is, the Northernness (which now consists of one, Ben Hofer) is going to be relocating to Washington, DC in just two weeks.

I’ve been a little distracted from the Northernness and the Sketchbook for the past month or so, but I’ve been writing again, so I’m hoping to add some new songs to the Song Sketchbook this month. I’m still going to continue to use the Sketchbook to put down new songs that I write, but it may not be on such a regular basis as before.

Also, check out the new shows that I’ve added in the Upcoming Shows section below. I’ll be playing a few times in Gainesville and also in Tallahassee and St. Augustine in the next couple of months. Look for a show in Orlando sometime soon as well …

I’ve been trying to play basically as much as possible lately. Come out to these solo shows in Gainesville!

The first one is Friday, January 30 at the Atlantic. This was kind of last minute but Lauris Vidal asked me to open up the show. So I’ll be going on around 10 or 10:30.

The February shows are on Wednesday, February 4th at The Kickstand and on Friday, February 20th at Tim and Terry’s.

I’m also looking to do more shows around Florida, so look for more shows coming up in Tallahassee, Orlando, St. Augustine, etc.!

If you feel like you haven’t heard much from the Northernness lately, it’s probably because we haven’t been doing much as a band. That’s all going to change (hopefully) around February, when we’re planning to start playing some full-band shows again in Florida. In the meantime, however, I’m going to be taking on a little side project of my own. (more…)

We’ll be playing an acoustic set between 6 and 9pm at Lightnin’ Salvage Enterprises (behind Satchel’s Pizza) and there is no cover charge. Our friends the Tortoise and Hair from Atlanta will play as well, and also our good buddy Daniel Linton. It will be a merry time of music and pizza for all, and there may even be some christmas carols, so if you’re still in town over the holidays, come on out and see us.
