In the Early Hours

My soul’s laid bare upon the lion’s table
My heart’s laid bare after years of stony songs

In the early hours
In the early hours of morning

You came like the wind; on in through the hope gate
You let yourself in with a rustle of leaves to this half-desert waste

You came to the sand like a wave, all kicking and coughing and laughing
You came with the dust from the grave, into this half-waking place

In the early hours
In the early hours of morning

Could my heart be wakened to the sound of trumpets on that blood-red horizon?
Would my heart crumble like the walls of Jericho?

Ben, digging it and digging it. I love the chorus a tempo feel, then the resolution of the song (musically and conceptually) at the end. I’m really looking forward to the rest of these…makes me want to drop what I’m doing and play!

Thanks Ben. I always enjoy your sound- maybe one of these days I’ll actually make it out to a show!

Good to hear, Greg. I always look forward to your music and blog posts at http://www.gregwillson.com

Laura thanks for the comment. If you’re in Gainesville over Christmas, I’m doing an acoustic show on December 23 at Lightnin’ Salvage (Satchel’s) between 6 and 9pm.

your new songs are incredible…you should seriously think about just putting them on a cd exactly like they are here…you have once again made music entirely different than anything you have made before…i must “give props where props is due,” as the kids say (or, as kids used to say anyway). looking forward to april.
