Protest Dream Song

I stepped out the window and onto the soil
Slipped on the sand and the syrupy oil
I slid down the stream through a prism of rhyme
and onto the scene of a violent crimeI called the police and the flashing red lights
Arrived on the street where I saw two men fight
One fought with riddles and one fought with songs
I was caught in the middle before very longThe officer came and he took me away
He said “son, come with me for your crimes you will pay”
So I sat in the jail for a year and a day
I had nothing to do, I had nothing to sayIt was urgent as arrows already in flight
It was pressing as powers locked up in the night
I peered through the bars, saw the cold hanging keys
As the clocks and kaleidoscopes sank in the seasSo I dove down deep in a blue submarine
Saw creatures and chasms no one had ever seen
But the clocks and kaleidoscopes I couldn’t find
Till I realized they lived in my heart and in my mindNow freedom’s a lonely world when you’re traveling from town to town
When you see all the bright sights and hear the bright sounds
I try to remember what I’ve learned on the way
But the nights are so fast bleeding into the days
greg says:
Dude, really dig it, very different voice for you. It’s got a Bright Eyes flavor. And you rock the harmonica, my friend.
Ben says:
Thanks, friend. Yeah, I have been intentionally trying on some different sounds. I think it’s easy to get stuck in a rut when you’re doing something like this.
Next week - Aretha Franklin!
greg says:
I wanna see that.
Really, I want to see that.
Dave Hall says:
I love the rugged sound and the rocking rhythms. Harp is perfect for this.
Nice job, Ben 8~)
