We drank deep from the streams in our lands
Waters steeped in the dreams in the sands
And we dove down into the earth
Heard the echoes of her very birth
We drank deep from the streams in our landsWe saw seeds scattered wide through the lines
Like the stars scattered far through the skies
We watched waves in the sea
We saw souls in the leaves
We drank deep from the streams in our landsAnd we rode our camels high
Through the eye of the storm
We rode our camels high
With our eyes on the star
Roy Garren says:

Paul Miller says:
Ben, there is more to say in this story. More of the mystery of the maji, more of the story, it doesn’t need to end yet. I like the mysterious knowledge of the earth and the timeless sea and the wisdom of their achient but lost discipline.
Ben says:
Paul, thanks for your input. I agree that the story doesn’t end there, but my goal for the song was more to make some imaginative speculations on who the Magi were and what their background was. I also agree that there’s more to the mystery of the Magi, I just hope that this song spurs some thoughts about that mystery.
Also, on a general note about the song sketchbook, these songs are “sketches” which also means they are not necessarily finished products, but a part of an ongoing process.
